Tonight HMV had copies of the greatest book of all time on sale for £2. So I bought four of them: a necessary extravagance, because you never know when you will discover that one of your friends hasn’t read the greatest book of all time and you need to instantly rectify the situation. I almost bought five copies, but somehow spending only £8 rather than a whole tenner seemed less weird. (I might go back tomorrow, I have quite a lot of friends.)
Have you read this? said the woman at the till.
YES. I said. OH YES.
It made my Friday night a nice one.
