Whee, jam victory! Two-time blue-ribbon winner!

Yay Clem!
Though seeing that Janice Macdonald got her own back in the not-raspberry category reminds me of the time I went to the Dumfries and Galloway Agricultural Show in the heady summer of 1992. There, I observed that the same two girls were the sole entrants in the 11-13 age category and one of them had won every time, except in one or two desultory competitions like penmanship or open-faced sandwiches. At the time, I thought that would make a really good short story but now I can’t help but think that was very uncaring of me, to think it would be a good fictional narrative, when in fact it must have been one of the true low points of that second-place girl’s adolescence whole life!
