“To the dismay of traditionalists, more manufacturers and retailers have have been using the Americanised spelling of yogurt that drops the letter ‘h’.”

Row erupts over yoghurt producers ‘using American spelling’ - Telegraph
Oh, poor traditionalists! I have to say, while I am in general in favour of assimilating (note my spelling of ‘favour’, there) I cannot get down with the awkward British pronunciation of ‘yogurt’, with a long ‘o’. Don’t think I haven’t tried: I dated a guy for a while who once made me stand in his kitchen, squirming with discomfort, as he tried to teach me to say it properly, as if he was a health-food-fixated Henry Higgins. I failed; he failed; we failed. The removal of the ‘h’ is a step in the right direction, but until the traditionalists accept that ‘yogurt’ sounds like a jaunty, street-smart greeting to a lady called Gertrude, I shall not be happy.
