On Hallowe’en, on Great Eastern Street

Excuse me, he says. Are you from around here?

He is American. He’s about 25. He doesn’t look like he’s going to mug me, not much. He has two friends. They are silent and glassy eyed. I think they may be what are known as ‘bros’.

Yes, I say. I mean, I live near here.

We’re looking for a place to go, says the Chief Bro. What kind of place? I say.

You know, he says. Somewhere where we can have fun.

Fun! I think. I look like someone who knows where to have fun! This bro wants me to advise him on where to have FUN!

Then I direct them to Hoxton Square.

Then I buy some washing up liquid.

Then I go home.
