Anniversary

Today is the anniversary of the day last year when, by a coincidence that I would have found hilarious if it hadn’t happened to me, my career and personal life temporarily went pear-shaped. Indeed, so awfully pear-shaped that for the first time in my life (I am generally very strong of stomach) I spent the entire night and the next day being violently sick for entirely psychological reasons.

Anyway! The point of this is not to reflect on the horror (the horror!) that was 12th December 2006, but rather to say that I am actually rather grateful, in retrospect, for the tumble that I took, for it turned out to be the catalyst that I needed to wrest control of my somewhat mediocre life and reach the point I’m at now: imperfect, of course, occasionally a little bleak, but in general much happier, resilient, and purposeful.

I rather wish I could go back in time and tell my 2006 self that this would be the case, but only so that I could have maybe done less puking.
